My birthday month finally arrived and looking back on it, I had a great time! In general, I was never crazy about July because it meant not being able to do anything due to hot temperatures. Thankfully, July in Belgium looks sunny at moment but mostly it reminds me of autumn so I get all anxious. I saw one too many black and white movies this month – that tells you what the weather was like. But at least it was rain following hot and dry days so it actually felt like a huge relief.

We took quite a lot of muddy/rainy walks this month so I kept daydreaming about those chilly autumn days. In fact, the rain was pouring on my birthday but I found that to be the perfect setting to spend the day rewatching old movies with Grégory. So I can’t really complain, can I?

Anyway, this month marked my first visit to a lavender farm, which I found to be quite charming. On a cinema note, I went to see Breakfast at Tiffany’s at Cinematek, or should I say rewatch it after 10 years. Cinematek is my absolute favorite cinema ever and I love revisiting it. They screen old and new classics but the best part is how they screen them. When I saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I was watching the actual film reel of the movie and it was beautiful. The cinema preserves every movie on a film reel and you can come to watch the projections. Isn’t that marvelous?

But I digress! Back to July, when I visited Brussels two times in one week solely to enjoy its architecture. I always say I’m happier living in the countryside but I do miss those buildings sometimes. Only so that the nerd in me admires the architecture though! But you can read more about that here.

We also got to explore new places close to home, mostly with the goal of trying to find a tea room. This turned out to be a lot harder than we thought. I think we’re going to have to “settle” for outdoor drinks on our picnic blanket.

As you might have noticed, I played around with some self-portraits again, this time with sunflowers. I haven’t figured it out yet but I wouldn’t mind making these into some kind of series. It’s just an idea at this point but I like how these photos turn out in the end.

There, that was the month of July; picnics, cinemas, rain, and lots of bike rides followed by one unfortunate fall. But it was plus de peur que de malMore frightened than hurt. so Grégory was alright. And now we’ll just count down to mid-August when we’ll be visiting Dublin for the first time ever! Cue lots of googling and planning an itinerary, my favorite thing to do!
