It took us an hour and a half of driving but Hallerbos greeted us with the most beautiful morning. And that was it, I fell in love.

Honestly though, how could one not? It’s not every day that you get to walk around an endless sea of purple flowers! And it really is endless!

I bet the most googled question in Belgium during April is when to visit the bluebell forest. There is no set answer because it depends on April’s weather but the end of the month is usually a safe bet.

To be sure, I checked out their official website every few days. And it seemed like we went at a perfect time.

Yes, we took the last free spot at a 10-place parking lot but once you get in the forest, you lose all the people. It never feels crowded.

Armed with our digital camera, tripod, and two analog cameras, we enjoyed our slow walk. The sight was beautiful and the smell of the bluebells was equally lovely.

I cannot explain how much I loved this walk. I know I’ve been lucky enough to visit many beautiful places in Belgium. But somehow Hallerbos seemed more special than others.

I was walking around the most alluring place in Belgium with the most important person in my life. Might have been what contributed to it feeling more magical.

We decided to come back next year for a whole day walk to explore other paths with our labrador.

It was a tiring day filled with lots of driving but those wonderful bluebells made it worth the trouble.

The fact that they only appear once a year for a few weeks makes them even more unique. You have to watch out for them and then you marvel at them, wishing they stayed just a bit longer.
