Just a bit more and autumn is here! The last few days of August seemingly wanted to remind us of how summer feels like but by then I had had enough of it. Now can I have gloomy overcast days with black and white films on repeat while cuddling with my dog? I always get anxious for September to set in and the first half of August was so rainy that I was halfway into an autumn state of mind. But there were a few other things in the way of that first.

Stories of August

First of all, I spent a week hosting With The Locals’ Instagram account presenting my favorite local places around Spa. This was the first time someone asked me to do something like that and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The middle of the month marked my third year of moving to Belgium which was a funny coincidence with the account hosting. Because it’s true, I feel like a proper local here. Since I was busy hosting the account and doing some last-minute preparations for Dublin, I didn’t write a single blog post until after our trip.

We did, however, explore some new places near home, such as The Clothespin sculpture in a park in Chaudfontaine. I knew of that unique sculpture before but we never got around to visiting it until now. It was a drizzling gray day and it felt like autumn. We met other puppies in the park so Miles got to play with them and run around like a madman.

The two of us for scale!

And we also finally found the ever-elusive Mazures castle. I used to see it every time I took the train to Brussels and I could never figure out where it was. As we were coming back from Chaudfontaine by a road parallel to the train line, I started to realize we were almost there! Grégory stopped the car in front of the castle and I took photos from every angle. Somehow, the castle in this weather reminded me of those old castles scattered all over Scotland.

The following day included a sunrise shoot that ended up being a fog shoot, which I won’t complain about! One would guess it’s already autumn and not August! On top of that, we went for a long hike and later on, stargazing too. For as long as I can remember, once a year I stay up for the Perseids meteor shower. This year we were about to give up on it due to cloudy weather when we got lucky on the last night. We didn’t stay long because it was all very impromptu. However, we still managed to see around twenty meteors grazing the night sky.

And after such an eventful day, it was time for our flight to Dublin. I won’t repeat myself much since you can read all about that trip over here. An eventful but exhausting visit left us wanting to relax so we mostly stayed at home. We spent our nights (re)watching Twin Peaks which definitely brought autumn to both of our minds. So I won’t look back on summer and regret it’s over, I never do anyway. Instead, I will focus on the best months ahead of us! September to the end of December really is the best time of the year.
