I’m very excited about autumn but this summer was so lovely that wishing August away is not easy. We got to spend so much time outside and rain didn’t follow us everywhere, as it usually does here in Belgium. So one sunny Saturday, after our traditional monthly brunch, we went to a local fair of old trades. I had never been to anything similar and it was honestly fascinating to witness it! Trades of earth, stone, wood, wool, glass; you name it, it was there. It was organized by locals and they were the ones showing off the trades and explaining the processes. All in all, it was a lovely experience about something I was unfamiliar with.

This month, we did another random photoshoot at sunset and I fell in love with the result! I can’t stress how rarely I say this about photos of me but Grégory has been changing my mind lately. I think it helps a lot if I’m wearing my vintage clothes because they just make me feel less self-conscious and awkward. It feels more like the “real me” if that makes any sense. Plus, being in front of the camera rather than behind it is slowly starting to feel a bit less scary. I suppose having someone as familiar as your husband behind the camera helps a lot!

For the past ten years, I always remember to go outside somewhere around August 11th to enjoy the Perseids meteor shower. Even though we were prepared for it this year, we still only saw around fifteen shooting stars. I say only because I used to see well over sixty shooting stars back in the day. Now I’m too old for staying up until 1 AM! Another thing we did often this month was observing deer in the forest nearby. Usually, we feel lucky when we spot even one deer but we got crazy lucky this month when we saw a whole herd of deer, on two separate occasions! There were at least twenty of them and all we could do was stand there in awe.

We attended another event this month and yes, it was about old things again! This time it featured old cars and while I normally couldn’t care less about cars, it was exciting to see models from the 1920s and 1930s. That was pretty much the most exciting part about it for me but it all turned out to be much bigger than expected so we walked around for an hour. I found a car from 1937 while wearing a similarly old dress which was quite funny!

And now that August is finally over, I can start obsessing over what I eagerly await every year – autumn! I already have so many things planned out because autumn always comes and goes in a flash. Especially since this year, certain aspects of autumn have arrived here much too soon! I’m also hoping to continue our long hikes despite the probable colder weather. This month we skipped one Sunday hike and made up for it by hiking for 15km the next week. But most of all, I hope to visit my favorite places around our home and find them all covered in beautiful autumn colors!
