During my long weekend in Sofia, I dined in some of the most beautiful restaurants. I’ll admit that I chose them because of their interiors. However, as noted as they are for their decor, they are renowned for delicious food as well. The menus were on par with the pretty decor and they all have superb vegetarian options, which is always a plus in my book! Visiting Sofia was a long layover before a work trip to Athens so I dined alone in all of these places. And honestly, I loved taking myself out on solo dates every afternoon or evening. So without further ado, here are the most beautiful restaurants in Sofia!

Made in Blue

ul. Yuri Venelin 6, 1000 Sofia

When walking down its street, it’s impossible to miss Made in Blue due to its appropriate facade. This is probably the most instagrammable café/restaurant in all of Sofia. It’s got a unique charm to it, a homey but slightly oddball interior that stands out. The rooms are sprinkled with mishmash furniture and quirky accessories. But somehow, it manages to look cohesive on the whole. Honestly, certain corners reminded me of my late grandmother’s home such as the old kitchen stove.

Altogether, eating here felt like visiting friends in their spacious house. Scattered throughout a few floors, you can sit in whichever room you want. They’re all distinct but have similar elements of exposed bricks and worn-out walls while still looking stylish.

I got here in time for a late lunch on a rainy day so I pretty much had the whole place to myself. The falafel bowl with peanut butter and cashew mayonnaise that I ordered was an absolute marvel. I love trying out new combinations of flavors and this one was amazing. If we’re talking about the most beautiful restaurants in Sofia, Made in Blue is my personal favorite!

Made in Home

ul. Angel Kanchev 30, 1000 Sofia

As you might have gathered, Made in Home has the same owners as Made in Blue. However, the two restaurants differ slightly in decor. One thing they don’t differ in is the menu, which is vegan and vegetarian friendly while also having something for everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed my vegetarian bowl with tofu and couscous!

The slightly eccentric interior is separated into two rooms. One of my favorite corners of it was the beautiful wicker peacock chair. One thing to note about Made in Home is that they only accept cash so don’t be like me and remember to bring some Bulgarian levs with you!

Shtastliveca

bul. Vitosha 27, 1000 Sofia

Often on the list of most beautiful restaurants in Sofia, Shtastliveca is among the most popular spots in the city. It has a few different locations and you’ll find the one I visited in the city center, on Vitosha boulevard. The interior is equally cozy and elegant, evoking the atmosphere of 1930s city homes. It has two floors and in the middle circle, an extraordinary chandelier covered in fairy lights, branches, and leaves. I sat right underneath it and couldn’t stop looking up and marveling at it!

The menu offers a variety of Bulgarian and European dishes, including excellent vegetarian options. It gets adapted to the seasons and frankly, some of the dishes are impressively creative. The food not only looked exceptional, but it tasted great as well. If I had stayed in Sofia longer, I would’ve gladly returned here for another meal! In fact, I would go back to any of these three restaurants. There is something distinct and unforgettable about all of them. I hope they inspired you to visit them when you visit Sofia!
