Ever since I can remember, I was always amazed by film photography. I didn’t know much about it but I fell in love with that beautiful grain and those wistful tones.
Film photography looks like my memories. When I remember the past, in my head it looks exactly like analog photos. Whether it’s the 35mm or the 120mm film, they both feel evocative, nostalgic.
Though I’m not going to lie, the 120mm film seems absolutely magical and I can’t wait to explore it soon. But I started with a few rolls of cheap 35mm film since I wasn’t even sure if the cameras were working.
We shot a roll on both the Canon AE-1 and the Nikon FE and the results were surprisingly good.

The second I started shooting with them, it all felt so right. I don’t know why I used to be so afraid of picking up an analog camera.
I mostly shot around the neighborhood but I took the Nikon to Brussels with me for a couple of shots. This made me think I should revisit Bruges. What is more fitting to shoot with an analog camera than a medieval city like Bruges?
I realize that I will now go everywhere with two cameras around my neck, a digital one, and an analog one. And the analog one is even heavier than the digital one. Oh my.
But what matters is that I’m ecstatic about finally delving into analog photography. I feel ambitious and anxious about what is to come out of it.
I’m already having dozens of new ideas about what to shoot and how to shoot it. I hope you like the results of this new love of mine.
