The first month of the year went by in reading books only. The snow came and went, never sticking to the ground longer than it snowed, so there was little to do but read books. I know for most people January represents a time of change and decisions and similar but not in my case. I just randomly make decisions throughout the year and easily stick to them because let’s face it, you’ll be more motivated in May than in January.

Speaking of, a few months ago I consciously decided to go back to my first childhood love. I used to devour books during my school years but then college came along and everything shifted in an unwanted way. I’ve gone through sixteen books in this month only and I’ve never felt more at peace. I forgot how happy and without worries I am when I read “too much”. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying getting lost in books.  Even my inspiration is waking up thanks to them!

I’m not the biggest fan of visiting cities during winter because photographing is literally painful due to the cold. But I gathered up some courage and took the 3-hour train to Bruges, which was surprisingly empty! We all know Bruges is famous for its crowds of tourists. Imagine my surprise upon finding it devoid of people in most places. It inspired me to finally write a post on tea rooms in Bruges.

Since I read so many books this month, I barely had any time left for movies. That is, except for one cinema outing when I saw Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and was mesmerized by it and its amazing soundtrack. Honestly, it was so good I would go see it again! Also, I’m very excited about a few screenings of old classics next month. There’s no better way to watch those classics than on the big screen.

As January usually tends to be, it was a slow month for us too. Our small vinyl collection finally found its purpose when we purchased a record player. Our not-so-little library grew quite a lot thanks to recent secondhand purchases. We enjoyed some long hikes in new forests, thanks to a local hiking map. And we discovered a few more restaurants and tea rooms nearby that we’re looking forward to exploring soon. Overall, the month flew by, which is not how January usually feels like!
