Doesn’t September always get you excited for autumn but then nothing feels remotely like it until the last week of the month? Because that’s how it always is for me! Last year this caused me not to take any photos for half of the month. In expectation of that, I made an active effort to take photos this September. So I started that off by impulsively visiting Brussels at the beginning of the month.

While there, I decided to do all of my favorite things. I discovered charming new streets, watched an old movie at my favorite cinema, and drank delicious tea in my favorite tea room. First off, I explored the new-to-me neighborhood of Schaerbeek and its stunning architecture. Seeing how lovely it looked, decided I have to come back sometime during autumn. After all that senseless walking, I stopped by CINEMATEK for a screening of Woman of the Year. Somehow, watching an old movie at CINEMATEK feels cozier than viewing it at home.

On the second Sunday of the month, we visited a book fair, an antique market, and a crêpe festival. I found some old songbooks from 1921 and 1896 at the antique market that I plan to frame as posters. I absolutely love the illustration style! Our library got bigger for a few more Émile Zola novels that day. Afterward, we enjoyed some homemade crêpes in the appropriately named village of Creppe. I have to admit, I’ve always preferred crêpes to pancakes!

Another fun thing we did this month was impulsively purchasing the LEGO London Bus set and spending our Saturday assembling it! For someone who didn’t grow up with LEGOs, I must admit these architectural and technical sets are enjoyable to build. We also purchased a few Harry Potter minifigures because we thought they would look nice with our book collection. We’re both planning on re-reading the books in English since we only read them in our maternal languages. Great winter plans, if you ask me!

One of the funniest moments of the month happened after we finished taking photos by a tree. We headed towards our car only to be greeted by a girl who recognized me from Instagram! She even recognized our dog! All in all, it was such an odd but funny episode. The remainder of September was spent enjoying the first signs of autumn. My favorite foggy mornings are finally back and I’m looking forward to getting up for sunrises! Now, if only those leaves would change colors already!
