Has it really been six months since the year started? I ask myself this question every year as June is ending. And I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that time flies by this quickly. But I can’t complain, I’m always trying to enjoy our life together to the fullest. And in fact, this month started off with a surprise visit to a small Dutch city called Eijsden.

Grégory told me nothing except to board the car and after a short drive, we boarded a boat and crossed a river. I still had no clue what this was leading up to and I certainly wasn’t expecting to be in the Netherlands. The city was adorable and ridiculously quiet for a Saturday afternoon. We concluded the visit by taking a stroll around the beautiful castle garden.

On another note, this month I finally switched to a licensed blog theme and I’ve been so pleased with every aspect of it. Also, those dreadful hot summer days came by and overstayed their welcome, if you ask me. I always complain about those but we somehow got through it with lots of swimming in the lake. Of course, I’m talking about Miles because I’m not the biggest fan of deep water. But that’s a whole other subject.

One morning, I decided to shoot some self-portraits so I played around with the camera’s tripod and remote. Usually, we use it for our little family portraits or whatnot so it never crossed my mind to use it inside the house. It’s not the brightest-lit room for handheld photography but it was perfect for this.

I’m very shy in front of the camera so shooting these photos was a challenge for me. Grégory usually says “stop talking, you have weird faces in all photos” – but I never know what to do with myself when “posing”. I suppose peonies helped with that this time! And to be honest, I wouldn’t mind expanding on this kind of photography! Hopefully, it might help me feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

In the end, June brought some new and some old things. We explored beautiful old beautiful old ruins, had some alone picnic time (for once there wasn’t a dog nearby trying to steal my food!), observed deer at dusk but mostly saw noisy baby boars!

Can you spot the deer?

One of my favorite June memories has to be when we found a field of poppies. They’re my favorite flowers ever and I couldn’t resist picking a few even if I knew they would wither too soon. I found a place for them in some of my old books, as a bookmark of sorts. This was a month of poppy fields, next up are lavender fields. And yes, one does exist in Belgium! I’m excited to show you some other new places next month but until then, I hope you enjoy these photos.
