Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a greater interest in linen clothing. Most notably, linen clothing produced under sustainable and ethical conditions, usually around a small family team. And Isona Linen Design is one of those companies! Their company was founded in Latvia, where the flax is also being cultivated. And from flax comes linen! I can’t live without linen clothing during the summer. It makes you completely understand how people during the Edwardian era could wear linen suits under the summer sun! It’s a breathable fabric that cools off during the warm months.

Once you start wearing linen clothing during the summer, there’s no going back! Especially since modern clothing contains polyester, which is practically unbreathable plastic. Linen clothes are without a doubt your best option during the warmer months. I often wear them throughout the colder months too, as long as I remember to layer up. The motto of Isona Linen Design is “communicate with nature directly” and it perfectly describes their philosophy towards fashion.

The fact that people are returning back to linen clothing makes me extremely happy! I rarely talk about fashion on my blog but I must admit I love it. I’ve always found inspiration for it in movies, classics from the 1930s and 1940s but also in newer period films. With that said, I have a very picky taste. Which in the end, was always a good thing. I would rarely purchase something that didn’t suit me or fit me. For the past 10 years, a big percentage of my closet has consisted of vintage clothing. Foremost, this was due to my picky taste, but also because fast-fashion clothing looked much too short on my 1,76 cm (5′ 9″) frame. And besides, I rarely liked the designs or the feel of the fabric.

So as soon as I could, I turned to vintage clothing after high school. Along the lines, thanks to the rare time I spend on Pinterest, I discovered linen clothing on Etsy. I was drawn to dresses inspired by vintage clothing. Isona Linen Design offers a varied selection of table and kitchen linen, alongside clothing. And while you could find many favorites, I immediately fell in love with the Adelaide dress. A pinafore dress with pockets and adjustable cross-back straps that tie into a bow. I don’t think I need to explain why that dress inspired me so much!

Pinafore dresses remind me of aprons during the Victorian and Edwardian era and I love wearing them over my 1940s blouses. Basically, there are countless combinations because you can wear them over other pieces of clothing! I wanted to start off this series with this adorable pinafore dress in the hope to inspire more people to look into linen clothing. There are plenty of different brands out there so there’s something for everyone’s taste. Be that minimalistic and modern clothing or vintage-inspired romantic garments. Overall, I find linen clothing to have a timeless look. And doesn’t it help that it is by far the most sustainable fabric out there? Personally, I can’t wait to explore this subject in more detail in future blog posts!
