Only a few weeks ago, I had the pleasure to discover Marine Troon, a five-star luxury hotel near Glasgow. A part of the Marine and Lawn hotels, it’s an unforgettable place. This collection of boutique hotels situated next to famous golf courses offers unique stays. By blending the charm of bygone days with modern luxury, the results are remarkable.

Following two lovely days in Glasgow, we hopped on the train to Troon. Only 40 minutes later, we arrived at our destination. The first thing you’ll notice at Marine Troon is the maximalism style. But don’t be alarmed, this is maximalism at its best. The different patterns and textures effortlessly merge into warm and cozy interiors. It’s obvious that a lot of thought went into designing the hotel.

Dating back to 1894, Marine Troon has undergone a careful renovation recently. A selection of rooms is still awaiting restoration but it’s slowly getting there. Taking inspiration from Scotland’s rich golf history and the surrounding coast, the renovated interiors are nothing short of wonderful. Striking wallpapers and views of the sea

If you thought the rooms were dreamy, wait until you see the hotel restaurant and hotel bar. Colors and motifs clash and complement each other perfectly. The result is divinely cozy spaces that are inviting you in. Tartan cushions, brass lamps, and a pool table complete the elegant space. Moreover, the hotel restaurant is where you will enjoy breakfast during your stay.

Among the things that stand out at Marine Troon is the impeccable service. The friendly staff is there to help you with everything, and there is also a concierge at your disposal. Equipped with all modern amenities, the hotel doesn’t leave much to be desired. Another plus is that Marine Troon is a dog-friendly hotel.

The hotel overlooks the Royal Troon Golf Club, a renowned golf course where the British Open has taken place nine times. What’s more, it will be hosting the championship in 2024! But if like me, that’s not really your thing, no worries. I found the hotel extremely enjoyable due to its views. Especially on the last morning when clouds and wind dominated the landscapes. The moody beaches looked particularly cinematic that morning. On the whole, we experienced every probable forecast during our stay. From clouds to full sunshine, sprinkled with a little downfall of rain at night.

Rooms at Marine Troon

Overall, there are 89 rooms at Marine Troon. Four of them are Marine Suites, twelve are deluxe Marine Rooms, and the rest are Classic Rooms. We stayed in one of the Marine Rooms with a view of the sea but I also got to have a sneak peek of two suites. Following the same design, the spaces clearly draw inspiration from the sea.

Needless to say, all three rooms that I saw were stunning. There was an instant feeling of snugness to them, especially on cloudy days, as you turn on the lights. Also, it was very tempting to dive into the plush king-sized beds. We slept wonderfully, without waking up once.

The en-suite bathrooms, covered in beautiful deep green tiles, looked amazing. Even more so with the amber lights contrasted against the tiles. I also loved the vintage details scattered throughout the interior. For instance, the vintage phone paired with the antique desk instantly transported me back in time.

Where to dine

When it comes to food, you have two options at your disposal while at Marine Troon. The extremely stylish hotel restaurant is called The Rabbit and it focuses on seasonal dishes and local ingredients. Our three-course dinner was delicious and reflected the philosophy, with an abundant choice of seafood. However, there were plenty of choices for vegetarians too!

On the other hand, The Seal boasts an exquisite cocktail menu. Alternatively, you can also grab some food there. As we walked into the bar right after dinner, we were delighted to realize that was the day of live music at The Seal! Every Friday night after 8 PM, you can enjoy a live performance while sipping on cocktails. Honestly, it was the best way to end that night. The singing was lovely, and there was even a cute moment of a shy toddler joining the singer for a rendition of Frozen. All in all, we spent the most wonderful Friday evening!

You don’t have to be a golf enthusiast to enjoy Marine Troon. The beach is steps away from the hotel, behind the golf course. We saw so many kitesurfers on the beach that day which was no wonder considering the usually windy weather in Troon. You can also relax in the hotel wellness area, offering an indoor pool, squash court, gym, and more.

Overall, our stay at Marine Troon was dreamy and relaxing. To say that I was dazzled by the interior is an understatement. I think I’ll be daydreaming about those classy interiors for a while! This stay was a welcome respite between two big cities, where we took things easy. Enjoying the sea breeze and refined interiors never looked better than at Marine Troon!
